Chukka 2.
The conditions being quite damp with a hefty breeze, the players had to contend with ponies desperately trying to keep balanced and as a result of a cross by Silverwood , Zencom’s Glenn Sheriff took the penalty from the centre, hitting a long hard shot which fell just short of the back line but Jim Pittard was onto in a flash and popped it between the posts, making the score 2 goals each. After a good cut shot under the ponies neck by Lottie Lamacraft, about thirty yards out, Zencom took the lead 3 goals to 2. Meeting the challenge head on Justin Stanhope-White, for Silverwood unleashed one of his characteristic backhands from the centre line, getting the ball up to Roddy Stanning who was lurking inside the Zencom thirty yard line and Stanning made no mistakes and put it between the posts. At the end of the second chukka the scores 3/3 each team.
Chukka 3.
With both teams getting faster as the pitch dried in the blustery conditions Roddy Stanning was unlucky not to convert a 60 yard penalty, which went wide. Chukka 4.
Straight out of the roll in Silverwood took the ball and scored making the score 3/4 but not to be outdone, as the rain started again, Zencom levelled at 4/4. In increasingly wet playing conditions Zencom’s Tom Lamacraft managed to slip through the Silverwood defensive wall, made up of Roddy Stanning and Justin, and scored another goal making the score 5/4.Not content with that effort, towards the end of the chukka Tom struck again and put Zencoms sixth goal on the board making the score 6/4 in Zencoms favour. In the final minute, a long good pass from Glenn reached Lottie, who was immediately ridden off by Kevin Greenleaves playing a solid defensive roll, but Lottie recovered her stability and took the ball through the posts making the score Zencom 7, Silverwood 4.
Chukka 5.
From the roll in Silverwood’s Roddy Stanning had a good run down the field and in spite of hard defensive riding off by Glenn Sheriff, Stanning hit the ball hard through the posts, making the score Zencom 7 Silver wood 5. Silver wood received a 5B from the centre and Roddy Stanning took a tap and then unleashed a big hit, but Zencom defended well and after a certain amount of vigorous stick hooking Zencom hit the ball away. Chukka 6.
The chukka started with a hit in for Silverwood, taken by Stanning, which was well met by Tom Lamacraft and in the ensuing play a penalty was awarded to Zencom. Chukka 8.
For the last chukka both teams upped the ante speed wise and Lottie Lamacraft scored a good goal for Zencom, moving them up to 11 goals but Roddy Stanning and Hayley Hyde-Andrews combined well to retrieve some of the deficit and scored a quick reply goal making the sores Zencom 11, Silver wood 6. Zencom increased their attacks on the Zencom half of the ground but some excellent defensive team work between Justin Stanhope-White and Roddy Stanning successfully thwarted numerous thrusting efforts by the Zencom team.An unfortunate bobble of the ball caused Roddy Stanning to, unusually for him, miss a backhander and Glenn Sheriff was on to it like a hawk and put the ball between the posts to get Zencoms 12th goal on the board. From the roll in Silverwood got the ball away but were met by heavy defence and Glenn Sheriff unleashed a big backhander which was picked up by Jim Pittard who was working well a # 1, and he scored the final goal for Zencom, number 13 in fact but Roddy Stanning, very quickly out of the line up shot down the field on a very fast pony and scored the final goal of the match for Silverwood, their 7th and with no further goals being scored Zencom are the winners of the Jellalabad Cup 2010 Zencom 13 Silverwood 7.
