Congratulations to Zencom (Jim Pittard, Lottie Lamacraft, Tom Lamacraft, Glenn Sherriff) for winning the final of the End of Season Tournament, and to Horner (Mike Ball/Tim Hawkins, Mark Williams, Kevin Greenleaves, Ed Olof) for winning the sub-final!

The prize-giving was accompanied by a speech from the current Chairman, Chris Andrews, announcing his retirement from the position and from competitive polo in general. Chris was presented with a scrapbook of photos from his years at Taunton and a memorable t-shirt from the first ever team he played on with Phil Lemanski. The other ‘end of season’ awards that were presented include:

·         The Wooden Spoon to Chris Andrews for his efforts with his team Blackingstone Rock. Chris failed to win the Chairman’s Cup, The Houldsworth and the End of Season tournament.

·         The Jill James Jug to both Mark Williams and Kevin Lamacraft. The Jill James Jug is for the most helpful member. Both Mark and Kevin have helped the club wherever possible for no reward by providing many of the umpire ponies, lesson horses, and extra players for club matches and other teams.

·         The Peter Buckenham trophy was awarded to Mike Ball. This trophy is for the Most Improved Player. There was a general consensus that this should go to Mike Ball who began in May as a non-rider, non-player and has finished the season as an asset to the Horner team in competitive tournaments.

·         The Umpire Trophy was awarded to Kevin James. This was awarded due to Kevin’s agreeable approach to umpiring, never finding excuses as to why he shouldn’t, despite often being short of a horse to umpire on.

·         The Groom’s Trophy was awarded to Amanda Gilbert. This was awarded by Karen James who believed Amanda was the ideal recipient. Amanda looks after many horses, all at different yards, and always turns them out to a high standard.
